- Conducted habitat and wildlife monitoring on state lands. Developed research questions and methods to investigate wildlife movement and community ecology with trail camera and GPS collar data.
- • Executed study designs and set trail cameras for monitoring the effects of human activities, controlled burns, and cattle grazing on wildlife as well as wildlife activity in remote areas. • Studied wildlife usage of highway underpasses including mule deer migrations. • Analyzed camera and mule deer GPS collar data from field sites using occupancy models, Brownian Bridge Movement Models, mixed effects models, and other data analysis methods in R. • Created a resource selection function with ArcGIS to determine potential areas of high cattle grazing to inform cattle monitoring protocols. • Helped develop and enacted methods for surveying cattle graze levels, rancher usage, and cattle impacts at field sites. • Led field implementation of bobcat population pilot study including camera setup and fecal transects. • Led ArcGIS technique workshops for coworkers and trained new employees in field methods. • Collected camera and habitat data at study sites. • Implemented a camera trap photo tagging protocol and managed aides tagging photos. • Surveyed wildlife areas for public usage, illegal activities, and habitat damage. • Led field teams in assessing and preparing wood duck boxes for nesting season. • Assisted with tracking mule deer for GPS collaring. • Attended a training and performed mountain lion necropsies. • Monitored invasive plants on CDFW lands and implemented scientific protocols for testing the effectiveness of herbicides and grazing on eradicating invasive plants. • Assisted in the process of writing grant proposals, land management plans, and cattle grazing leases. • Performed literature research, organized lands record files, and regularly wrote reports and summaries of research and field site visits.
- Undergraduate Researcher (August 2018 - May 2019)
- Brashares Lab, University of California, Berkeley *Investigated human activity effects on carnivores and their prey in a tourist area at Lake Tahoe, CA. *• Implemented occupancy modelling and other estimates of wildlife activity to determine the effects of human disturbed areas on wildlife communities. • Determined potential human disturbances and effects to wildlife using ArcGIS and R.
